    Hey there, with the tilled side, could you elaborate on a few things.
    1. How far down did you go?
    2. Did you add anything to improve the soil or was it a seed, layer, water forget type of deal?
    Super impressed . I'm in Australia and I have a similar soil to yours, sandy, compressed and lacking nutrients.

    Have you gone to Lowes of Home Depot. They have the rental departments where you can get a fairly kick ass. Rear tine tiller that will make short work of that area in about a fourth of the time and two or three times the depth, at least thats what i did with my 1/4 acre lot here in las vegas.

    Also, since I knew that I would be putting in about 40 trees this year i rented a one man post hole digger, that was able to dig a hole about 18 inches in diameter and a little more than two an a half feet deep. Plenty deep to put down a lot of amendment under the tree. I think they are both less than 100 a day, really nice if your not wanting to keep equipment around.
