In this episode of Cheap Family Travel (http://www.cheapfamilytraveltips.com), Nick, Regan, Maggie & Kate visited the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum outside of Tucson, Arizona. This museum is a world-renowned zoo and botanical garden mixed into one. 85% of this museum is outdoors. It covers 21 acres and has two miles of walking trails through the mountain woodland, the desert grasslands, the riparian corridor, and the aviaries. We loved seeing all the animals in their natural enclosures like bighorn sheep, javelina, coyote, Mexican grey wolf, coati and the mountain lion. We saw snakes, birds and tortoises. The museum houses over 230 animal species in various desert habitats and over 1,200 types of plants. There are tons of hands-on activities throughout the park. You can collect animal print stamps and listen to docents. The Desert Museum was nothing like we expected. It’s more like a zoo or a wild animal park than a museum. The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a must see in the Tucson area.
