This video is a rather sad one in which I share with you some cacti that have died and also of some who are fighting their battle with mealy bugs. Things don’t always go to plan with growing cactus and sometimes you will lose plants despite your best efforts, it can be very disheartening. Thank-you for watching & Happy Gardening! Do you have spider-mites in your cactus room? They seem to be taking out a lot of succulents, at least down here, in Texas.
I'd check for mites. And do use the insecticidal soap(s). Powder form is best, especially for cacti, in my opinion. I use (dry) Sevin-Dust.

For your second echinocereus, Why didnt you use a sterilised blade for the second cut? You made the first cut through infected tissue, then used the same contaminated blade for the second cut through clean tissue. I wish you luck and hope the little guy makes it, but it seems poor practice to use a dirty blade on the cut you intend to callous.

so sorry about your plant losses, sometimes this happens even though we are doing everything right, this happens to me too with cactus rotting, I have had it happen a few times myself this year, and its always with my most favorite cacti, which is really gutting. Mealies are such a horrible and evil pest in our collections, and they are always hiding in places we can't reach or see until its too late, the worst I have found are the root mealies, as they go unnoticed for a long time, although it is a shame you have lost some plants, and i know that awful feeling, especially with our well loved ones we have had for many years, although this is sad to happen this is such a brilliant video as it will help others who have had the same thing happen to their cacti also, its so good to share our experiences so other people into the hobby can learn from us and know what to do in these circumstances, Thank you so much for sharing this, Sending you loads of love and happy growing and plant power from Ireland to Australia for a wonderful afternoon XXXXXX <3
