God why isn't this section being preserved?? It needs to be broken up and re-paved before it's gone forever. Maybe reopen the trading post. More effort needs to be done to preserve these deteriorated sections of Route 66. It boggles my mind that NO BODY has taken the effort!

Was this a two lane highway at one time?

It's been gated off now with no trespassing signs.

Ok thanks a million. We need to get back up there and go from 257 then go east. It looks like a great area to search, we just don't want to get into trouble. Also, have you been to Ash Fork hill??? It looks like if you were heading east on 40 you could double back and drive on the upper part of it.

I have been on that a couple times. The cottonwood wash. You must access it from the west at exit 257. The eastern side is blocked. It has a great photo opportunity of the old bridge in that area. There are two alignments of 66 in this section.

Have you been on the alignment that goes East from exit 257 ?? If you go to exit 264 the gate is up.

@HookedOnRoute66 You did show it but you were there already and you also mentioned that you used the locked fence entrance to get there!

@GnawWolf No problem, and good luck on your adventures!

@pedrof830 I didn't get any video of making it all the way to the post. I think I have some at the post – Which I will upload soon.

Thanks again for sharing your adventures with us, could you upload the video showing when you get to the post using this trail?

We are interested in doing this alignment this spring or summer. My wife has a lifted bad ass 4×4 Ford F150. We took it to the Painted Desert Post last summer, but went up the other way which I understand is blocked off by a gate now. Thanks for keeping the secrets about how to get to the alignments to keep what little we still have safe!
