I was helping a guy that needed some help, he was trying to get to Amarillo Texas and he told me of an old man living out in the desert not far from where he had pitched his tent for a few nights. So, we parked at a truck stop and walked on foot out to where he was located. The old man seemed perfectly sane, very educated and sharp. One of his former jobs was down in Tucson Arizona as a manager of a transportation company, in which got disenchanted with the way others within the company were doing their jobs.. Now he’s decided to live without any income whatsoever, living in desert areas out aways from civilization, and won’t apply for social security retirement benefits although he could qualify.

I guess he didn't want to disclose his name but I'm impressed by someone who seems to have chosen homelessness.

Social Security is not charity, it's YOUR money that was taken out of YOUR paycheck for all the years that you worked.

I agree with food being abundant, if a person knows how to forage for edible wild foods like wild plants, berries, edible mushrooms, nuts, etc you can get by pretty well plus it's far more nutritious than anything you would find in a supermarket. People in this day and age have forgotten this vital knowledge. Also tons of perfectly good food gets thrown out everyday and yet people complain there is a hunger problem. ?

What the hell people's replies as if social security has been around for ever!

Fact is people lived without all that shit for 10k years and they relied in their knowledge and others to get on with living. What you have today is people working to pay taxes and others to do it for them. To some extent more then they need too! It's bit like the next flat screen TV will make your life any better or paying with credit cards will help you as you just end up working to send your paycheck to some loan company!

That's not self reliant, that's insanity!?
