We bought untreated wood and spent a Saturday afternoon assembling raised bed frames for square foot garden beds. We made 2 4×4 beds and 4 2×4 beds. We wanted to make sure impurities (if any) in? the soil were kept well out of our beds… so that is another reason to use the weed barrier.

I? love the feel of wood. I found i do not need the weed barrier. The grass will not grow once its covered. It decomposes which is good for the soil. Great looking boxes.

  • SLAP!?

SFG is great – that Mel’s mix appears to be superb stuff and you can use it for years (apparently! – I’m using it for the first time this year.)
    Music fits well :o)

awesome vid!! i cant wait till i start? my own garden this year!!

  • GettingThereGreen 4 years ago

As for soil we are taking our current soil from our old garden in the back yard, some compost (which if you watch carefully you can see in the corner of the back yard) and vermiculite 1/3rd, 1/3rd, 1/3rd is supposed to? be the correct mix. – Randy

  • jihadacadien 4 years ago

yeah….it would’ve cost me over 200$ for sure. like 500$ for? the size garden I have 😉

  • jihadacadien 4 years ago

LOL Well I guess they’d fit in mine. But I’m sure I can find some localy, just have to look. I have one already so I can collect some water. but I’d like? more for the august drought.

Lumber, screws, “L” brackets and weed? barrier all cost a total of $160.00 (tax in).

  • GettingThereGreen 4 years ago

We put? ours in our little 2005 Ford Focus hatch back. 1 at a time though. But we just had to make two trips. No biggie. -Randy

Thanks….I’ve tried freecycle here, but no chance so far. And with kijiji I’d need a trailer cuz as much stuff I can fit in? my hatch back….those won’t fit lol. I’ll find out who uses them eventually!

  • jihadacadien 4 years ago

Oh and the boxes look great! I’d love to buid some but lumber is so expensive here. Maybe I could use some tree trunks when I get a trailer 😉 What soil are you gonna? put in there?

  • GettingThereGreen 4 years ago

we do have some tips actually… we were doing a video on the rain barrels but somehow deleted most of the video stuff. so we have to redo it. That video will probably come soon. we bought those two off kijiji (like craigs list). but i’ve heard that freecycle can be good for picking them up.? Also places that use them will sometimes sell them for $10 or $20 a piece. video to come. ~Amanda
