I USED A PAIR OF PLIERS TO PULL DOWN/BACK ONE OF THE LOWER SPINES. IF YOU SEE GREEN, THE CUTTING IS STILL ALIVE. DON’T OVERWATER, AS THEY NEED DRY SANDY SOIL TO AVOID ROTTING, AND TO TAKE ROOT. I USED A ROOTING HORMONE WHEN I MADE THE CUTTINGS, AND WATERED THEM LIGHTLY IN POTS, ABOUT EVERY 2-3 WEEKS. HOPE THIS INFO HELPS, KEITH IN ARIZONA Video Rating: / 5

I know nada about rooting hormones… What do you recommend for cholla, ocotillo, prickly?

Good info! I've always had problems with ocotillo cuttings, and gave up on them after seeing no roots for so long. I guess they just need more time than most to root. Thanks!

Hey Keith, my first ever mention on YouTube! Hope your shoulder is getting better buddy…horrid when things like that happen and you can't do much. Just been out to check the Occotillo cuttings….looks like I have lost them…dry and dead looking wood showing…no green whatsoever :/
