A woman who was stranded in a remote part of Grand Canyon for 5 days used her good sense and preparedness to make it out of the perilous situation alive.  24-year-old Amber VanHecke of Texas was out sightseeing in the Arizona desert last week when her GPS sent her to a stretch of rugged road not frequently traveled, reports ABC News.  She then ran out of gas and was unable to get a viable cell phone signal. WGHP notes that VanHecke survived for 4 days on food and water she’d packed and also made a sign reading, “Please stop. I’m out of gas, stuck here.”  Nobody passed by, so, on day 5, she walked until she was able to make a call to rescuers, but it dropped before she could tell them exactly where she was.  Guided by her description of the area and a note she’d left, Arizona Department of Public Safety air rescue unit found her up the road from where her car had stopped and airlifted her to an area hospital.  VanHecke said of the experience, “I guess I got to cross riding in a helicopter off of my bucket list.” Video Rating: / 5

HOAX ? Too many strange unanswered questions with this story… she had a phone signal and it died just before she could give her location. a truck passes by but did not see her…or did she hide from the truck not wanting to be rescued too soon… … she enters the desert by herself on an empty tank but had food and water for five days (car breaking down would have been believable) …… she documents the whole story with a cell phone camera that the battery never died for her social media … when she ran out of food and time… she walked a few miles to get a signal for her phone and reached help just before she lost signal again… help arrives just s she was running out of food and water. She said riding in a helicopter was on her list of things to do. Could that have been the motive in the first place…. a free helicopter ride? Then she asks for donations to pay for her hospital bill.Geez.. She got what she wanted… a brief moment of fame… attention for the lonely girl with no friends to go with her on this trip…. Why did she not take her food, water, and phone with the super battery and just walk back to the nearest gas station? The question is…. Is this girl really that dumb or are we the dumb ones for believing this? Wonder what Google maps has to say about being blamed for this whole fiasco?
