Black market cacti: Arizona man admits to stealing, dealing drugs with protected cacti
A pair of poachers who have been clearing cacti for years are now paying the price, including one from Arizona. Jared William Malloy has pleaded guilty to participating in a black market scheme that involved stealing and selling desert beauty. According to court documents, Malloy and another man named William Starr Schwartz sold the stolen cacti online to buyers in more than 20 different countries. The pair admitted to trafficking in four different types of cacti protected by international treaties. The illegal operation continued for more than four years.
