No matter what climate you are in, or what limitations you may have, it is still possible to grow your own nutritious and nutritious food. Permaculture design makes it possible to work with the natural patterns of your site to provide water to your landscape, fertility for your plants, and a balanced ecosystem that will serve to prevent pest problems and much of the work that is traditionally associated with gardening. This video is an overview of a permaculture design and installation near Phoenix, Arizona, completed in March of 2017 by my permaculture design and consultation service Earth Care Design ( www.earthcaredesign.com). Starting with a nearly blank slate of dirt and a few weeds, we were able to transform the yard into a pleasant environment for the family in this typical suburban home, complete with several fruit trees, berries, herbs, and pollinator friendly flowering plants. We also installed an annual veggie garden, bordered by perennial companion plants, which will allow the children to learn about nature and gardening, while providing fresh vegetables for their plates. All of this was integrated into a water harvesting system, collecting and storing rainwater that falls on the roof, which will greatly reduce the need to irrigate during the hot summer months.
