ALIVE cactus looks DEAD and is bearing fruit in the Arizona desert

While hiking in the Arizona desert during October, I found this amazing combination of plant life. Creosote bushes are all over, but yet I happen to notice something red at the top of one…how to find out that it was actually a camouflaged cacti that had ripe fruit!!!

What makes this really interesting to me is that creosote plants are said to have the ability to grab more water by inhibiting the growth of nearby plants thus killing them off…seems like this cactus enjoys some of that water 🙂
