What you need to know at Texas State University Papas. ###National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has allocated 5 million US dollars for the development of next-generation rocket engines using liquefied methane. Methane-based rocket technology will be used in space propulsion, ascent and descent engines for Mars and Moon landers. The research will be led by UTEP’s NASA-funded Space Exploration Technology Research Center, which will be directed by Dr. AHSAN CHOUDHURI. The total cost of the project is US$9.3 million. It includes a $4.3 million industry and institutional commitment to continue to build UTEP’s ongoing aviation research capabilities. ### UTEP’s latest public art work “Millennium Market” is the content officially used in universities this week. Willie Ray, a retired UTEP art professor, created the steel sculpture and gave it to the university as a gift to commemorate its centennial celebration. The “Millennium Mark” is a blue and white sculpture with wings moving in the breeze. The public artwork was installed in March 2015. ### Exquisite decorations are being placed on the “Emerging Communities” exhibit, which chronicles the history of rabbi, gay, bisexual, transgender and gay communities in the area. UTEP’s Women and Gender Research Program, the Centennial Museum and Kee Huahuan Desert Garden will hold a public exhibition and reception at the museum from 6 pm to 8 pm on June 2 (Tuesday). Part of the funding for this exhibition comes from Humanities Texas, which is a national subsidiary of the Humanities Foundation. “Enhancing Communities” embodies the challenges and resilience areas faced by LGBTQ communities in the El Paso/Juarez border area. ### During the second annual community partner appraisal program held on May 21, the collaboration between students and community partners was celebrated. The company represented 150 regional organization families from business, education, entertainment and support to participate. UTEP President Diana Natalicio thanked the community partners for their role in educating more than 8,000 UTEP students.
