Water/Ways Fundraising Dinner | September 18, 2021

The Brownsville Historical Association (BHA) proudly presents Water/Ways, a traveling exhibition of the Smithsonian Institution Museum, which will be on display at the historic Alonso Building from September 21 to November 6, 2021. Sponsors and supporters joined the BHA for special viewing of the exhibition. The food center provides catering services, an open bar, live music and a special introduction by the Turtle Company. 🐢 Water/Ways provides selected photos, objects, movie audio and interactive exploration of the endless movement of the water cycle, the impact of water on the landscape, settlement and migration, as well as the cultural and spiritual impact. The exhibition looks at how political and economic planning is affected by water access and water control. Designed for small town museums, libraries and cultural organizations, Water/Ways will act as a community catalyst to promote dialogue about the impact of water on American culture. The exhibition will travel to six locations in Texas within a year. BHA will be the only organization to accept Smithsonian traveling exhibitions deep in southern Texas. Before arriving at the BHA Alonso Building, it will travel to the Brazos Valley African American Museum in Bryan, Texas and the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum in Cuero, Texas. After working in the association, it will be installed at Midland College in Midland, Texas; University of Texas—Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas and Ethiopia, Texas The Centennial Museum and Chihuahua Desert Garden in El Paso. BHA has developed public plans to deepen people’s understanding of the cultural and social significance of water in our region. All shows will be held in the historic Alonso Building at 510 East St. Charles Street, Brownsville, Texas (unless otherwise stated).
